Dispute resolution and arbitration

We deal with most types of business disputes. In keeping with our philosophy of providing you with the best solutions, we usually recommend alternate dispute resolution methods to our clients. Where a dispute can be resolved without having to go to court or appointing an independent arbitrator, we seek to persuade clients to settle in their own interests so that no time and effort is wasted in obtaining a judgment or award.

Arbitration, a process used to settle a dispute in a non-judicial setting, is particularly effective for international commercial disputes because of the relative informality of the way proceedings are normally conducted, and their speed, efficiency and confidentiality.

Over the years we have handled arbitrations across Asia and Europe, acting for and against companies, governments and other entities. We have handled disputes involving high-value cargo and charter-party disputes. The firm acts for insurers, international manufacturers, commodity traders, ship-owners, energy companies and state entities in court proceedings. In arbitration proceedings, we have acted for our clients in various commodity trade association rules and under those of Chambers of Commerce and international organisations such as GAFTA, LMAA, the International Chamber of Commerce, the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes and the London Court of International Arbitration. In conjunction with our foreign correspondent firms we also act to protect our clients’ interests in other jurisdictions.
